With each breath taken in sync with the rhythm of measured time, the body strives toward what is an inevitable failure to embody clock-time. Through continuous acts of suffering and enduring, however, breathing becomes a site for performing the body’s active relation with all densities of time. The verbalization, ‘I breathe’, made at the beginning of the ritualized performance is a testimony to the body in dialogue with time, challenging its relation to the everyday workings of time and expressing the dialogue as necessarily embodied.
